I grew up in Portugal where my parents had a winery... we had much fun with the wine making process, from harvesting to stomping the grapes, and eventually tasting the final product!!!
As a young teenager, I showed an inclination for music and the theatre, but not for school. I bought an electric guitar when I was 15, the first in my home town, and it was quite a sensation!
I played lead guitar in several bands across the country, but it was the Tubaroes (Sharks) that brought the passion in me to play music... destiny, however, took me on a different path.
I was 22 when I was drafted into the Portuguese army stationed in Guine Bissau, West Africa, where I made great friends. It was an army buddy who introduced me to photography and my first camera, a Minolta. I discovered a new outlet for my creative soul, and was hooked for life.
Then life, and Coca-Cola took me to Mozambique, South Africa, the United Sates, and Sweden while also providing an extraordinary executive experience and the opportunity to travel across more than 80 countries. I photographed the world, but left the negatives and prints behind!
My wife Tricia encouraged me to go digital and I discovered a new world of opportunity to be creative. It's a little late to become a rock 'n' roller, but it is not too late to be the best professional photographer I can be.
Why Viegas?
Viegas was taken from my grandmother's maiden name and I adopted it in celebration of my family.
